Look Waaaaay Up...

Last weekend I was able to visit my birth city-- Calgary. Now I live in Edmonton so it's not that far away but I don't usually get the chance to go around with my camera and just shoot what looks great to me. I love the downtown of Calgary the buildings are just so powerful, some are very tall, others are made of all glass and a few are very old with spectacular architecture. All of these shots are taken from street level as I looked up at the high rises.

Knox United Church

Here I am standing in the middle of 5th ave and third street facing east.

3rd St. 9th ave facing north.

9th ave and 3rd street facing east, hiding in the distance is the Calgary tower.

Waterton- Where I go to see Beauty

Waterton is one of my favourite places to visit in Alberta. It has beautiful mountains, lots of wild flowers, waterfalls and incredible of wildlife. Being in Waterton just makes so happy- I feel alive there. It is so peaceful and rejuvenating. Whenever I am in need of some alone time or reflecting time the mountains are the first place I will head to.

The wild flowers are very pretty in the spring time.
Black bears are very prominent in Waterton especially on the Red Rock Canyon road.
I saw 8 bears on this trip. ( I was far away from them. Please don't get close
to the bears- they need space too).
Red Rock Canyon- this was my first visit here. It is a beautiful place and is great for anyone to visit.
The loop is only about 1km.

Blakiston Falls is also a short hike but into another world with a loud roar as
the water turns the corner and crashes down.

I don't know the name of this mountain but it is on the hike to Goat Lake and I came across a bear in the woods
soon after--- Do not hike alone... I went and bought bear spray the very next day.
Red Rock Canyon again. I will let the picture speak- it might communicate
better than I could.

Can you imagine the size of the frying pan?

I was recently "contracted" for a photo book for Jerry Aulenbach, the Bacon Man as most of you know him. I "borrowed" his bacon suit and had a mini photo shoot with Kaleena, Dylan and Scott. It was such a fun night. I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

If Machines Could Talk What Would They Say?

I love rusty old machines. They have so much life to them. The lives that some machines have seen, the stories they could tell if they could talk. I went on a search for old machines with my Dad in southern Alberta. Just south of Lethbridge we came across some pieces of history. (Please keep in mind that I am a big city kid and am illiterate in farming implements).
We found this piece of equipment abandoned on the edge of a field.
It make me think about the circumstances that led to it just being discarded.
Did he run out of gas, did he go in for lunch and have a heart attack, did the engine
break down or did he just give up and walk away because the land had sucked the life
out of him?...

Close up on a wheel. I wonder how many revolutions this wheel has made?...

The wheel  has sunk into the ground and the grass has started to devour it.
Links of some sort. I love the texture that the rust brings out.

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Over the Christmas break I went snowshoeing with Matt Hornberger. He is my outdoor hero. I have gone hiking with him a few times and he is always in the lead, aimed towards the top of the mountain, not stopping until he can see the beautiful view from the peak. Here Matt goes for a tumble down part of the mountain (he is ok so it's ok to laugh)

Here are a few shots from our adventure to Burstall pass.

Snowshoe Extravaganza

Let me start off by saying I LOVE the winter time; the snow AND the cold. I went snowshoeing this past weekend with Dylan and Joelle for an adventure around Kinsmen Park. In Edmonton we had 28cm of snow during the weekend (this is heaven to me).

Here are a few shots of our fun time in the snow.
(you can also check out more of Dylan and his adventures at http://treesrocksdirt.com/

This is Dylan. He loves the snow too.

See... I told you

The snow is just so cozy.

I see you...

This is the High Level Bridge

Dylan jumped into the snow WEEEEEE. Joelle decided not to join in.

We buried Dylan in the snow. Look how happy he is!

I love my beard in the winter time. It keeps my face so warm and collects snow and ice which for some reason I
really enjoy.

SUMMARY: Snow is RAD and the winter time is glorious!
Go out and play in the snow. Live it up and have some fun.

Drohan.. David Drohan. Man of Mystery

I have a friend named David Drohan. He is a great person to talk to because he has such a good knowledge of the world. He is fun to play games with including card games and board games. From my interactions with him I have found him to be a true gentlemen with a very kind heart. I am glad to know him.
David also has a great name (my name too). He loves the camera which I did not know. David has such a wide variety of facial expressions which show the different sides of his personality. It was a pleasure to photograph him.

I love the raised eyebrow serious face.
Half smile with a half question.

David laughing (I probably told a really good joke).
He just has the kind of face that makes you smile.
More quizzical glances from Drohan.
He looks good in any pose.

He is single ladies... Don't miss out.
